A New ModelWith the changes in the districts we will also be making some changes in the district leadership structure. We will continue to have a dCOM or District Committee on Ordained Ministry. The dCOM will help people entering ministry and looking for certification for candidacy. The dCOM will also work with licensing for local licensed pastors.
We will continue to have a District Board of Church Location and Building. This board will continue to work with churches that have building needs, but they will have an additional focus. The Board will be trained in reading demographic information. This training will help us become more proactive in starting new ministry groups, home churches, and new building sites in growing locations around our district.
The District Committee on Lay Speaking will continue to train lay people for lay leadership roles and lay speaking in the local church. The superintendent and lay leader will take a more active role in training and sending a more central message for the local churches. As a conference, we realize that sending a central message out to the churches is vital. Our lay speakers are a great source of sharing the good news of our vision and mission.
Members from the dCOM, the Board of Church Location and Building, and Lay Speaking will comprise the Committee on District Superintendency. This will bring all the leaders together to talk about needs, concerns, strategies and focus for the superintendent and the district. The Lay Leader will also be a vital part of the Committee on District Superintendency.
I will be adding one more group. This is not a group that is required by The Book of Discipline. This is not a group that will meet on a regular basis. None the less, this will be a vital group in the life of the district. I will be calling 12 people asking them to be on the District Prayer Team. I will send out prayer concerns via email from time to time to ask for the team’s spiritual support.
In the meantime, I ask that we all remain in prayer as we transition into a new time in the life of our Annual Conference and District. This is an exciting time.
Blessings, Mike Wuehler
